Decision: Hire 2 specialty editors for ~6 specific videos. DIY everything else. Total cost: ~$1,500 one-time + $27/mo software. Best platform to find them: Fiverr Pro (not regular Fiverr) for Editor B (beauty Reels), Upwork for Editor A (documentary). Reasoning below.
CapCut + Opus Clip is genuinely great for 80% of what we shoot. They will handle:
But there are TWO specific lanes where a human editor adds conversion lift you can't fake with AI:
The videos that have to convert cold traffic on a landing page or investor pitch. CapCut can't do emotional pacing, music selection, or color grading at the level cold traffic demands. A pro edit of A1 (Founder Origin) on landing page = probably 20–40% conversion lift vs CapCut.
The 4/24/26 brand strategy deck named four personas. One — the Somatic Seeker (Maya, follows Levine, Maté, Primal Trust) — responds to embodied, aesthetic, Glossier/Sol de Janeiro/GRWM-style visual language. CapCut produces clinical-feeling content; she needs softer pacing, serif type overlays, slow zooms, ASMR cues. Different editor than Lane A.
What they do: A1 Founder Origin · A3 Meet Dr. H Flagship · eventually M1/M2 Member Stories Cost: $400–$800 per cut. 3 cuts = $1,200–$2,400 total Where to find them: Upwork (NOT Fiverr — this is higher-stakes work where you want vetted track records and the ability to interview)
Upwork search terms to use:

What to put in the brief:
We're a clinical posture-measurement startup launching June 1. Need a 60-90 sec
founder origin video edited from raw iPhone footage. Style reference: think
"Headspace founder," "Whoop" brand films — calm, documentary, intimate but
authoritative. No flashy transitions. Color grading + light B-roll + subtle
score. Total budget $500-700 for the cut.
Vet by asking: "Send 3 examples of founder or brand films you've edited where the energy felt warm + authoritative without feeling salesy."
What they do: Crossover virality cuts — the viral 48K post follow-ups (E1–E3), satisfying scan demos, before/after-style content Cost: $150–$300 per cut. 3 cuts = $450–$900 total Where to find them: Fiverr Pro (use Pro tier, not regular Fiverr) + DM beauty/wellness creators directly

What to put in the gig brief:
Need a 30-second Instagram Reel cut from raw iPhone footage. Style reference:
beauty creator GRWM aesthetic (Sephora / Glossier / Sol de Janeiro). Soft serif
text overlays, slow zooms, satisfying transitions, gentle music. Subject is a
posture-app demo — make it feel like skincare/wellness content, not clinical.
Captions in our brand colors (gold #D4A748, teal #0F4A45). Need final IG Reel +
TikTok dimensions.
Vet by asking: "Send 3 examples of Reels you've edited that hit 100K+ views. Ideal: beauty, wellness, or skincare niches."
This is actually higher-signal than either platform. DM 5 beauty/wellness Instagram creators (50K–500K followers) and ask "who edits your Reels?" They'll tell you. You get an editor with a proven track record on real creator content, often cheaper than Fiverr Pro because they're working below their agency rate.
Who to DM: Look at creators in your wellness-adjacent space (yoga, somatic, posture, alignment) with Reels that consistently hit 50K+ views. The editor who lifted them above algorithm-baseline is the editor you want.
Regular Fiverr is a race-to-the-bottom marketplace. You'll get:
Fiverr Pro is curated. The editors there are vetted, have real portfolios, and the price is closer to Upwork (just faster delivery and gig-based instead of project-based).
| Item | Cost | When |
|---|---|---|
| Editor A — 3 founder cuts (A1, A3, M1+M2 later) | $1,200–$2,400 | One-time after Atlanta filming |
| Editor B — 3 beauty/wellness Reel cuts (E1, E2, E3) | $450–$900 | One-time after Atlanta filming |
| CapCut Pro | $7.99/mo | Recurring |
| Opus Clip | $19/mo | Recurring |
| Total | ~$1,700–$3,300 one-time + $27/mo |
If lift is real (you see Reels from Editor B getting 5x your baseline), THEN consider a $1,500/mo retainer. Don't commit until you see numbers.
Decision deadline: pick both editors by May 24 so first cuts are in your hands the week of May 27 (matching the Foundation Cohort email cadence and pre-June-1 buildup).
